According to researchers from Universitas Padjadjaran in Indonesia, a RPA automated process is completed 8.47x faster than the manual process, while having zero errors. In the study, the invoice-to-payment process for a telecommunications company was automated using UiPath, a leading RPA vendor, with staggering results. The average through times per transaction for the automated process was a mere 19s as compared to 2min 41s for the manual process. In addition, the manual process resulted in the occasional errors which doubtlessly incurred additional efforts and costs to rectify.

With each supplier having a different invoice format, invoice processing was tedious, and it was all too easy to make mistakes. Finance executives had to manually identify Purchase Order (PO) numbers on the invoices, then pore over the quantities and amounts among a jumble of numbers on each invoice, trying to match them with the POs in the ERP system. Existing
technologies like Optical Character Recognition (OCR) rely on templates and does not scale
